It all started with me going to buy my son Darren, a non-pedigree kitten as a house warming present. He had far grander ideas, he wanted a Birman, as we had one while the children were growing up. Darren bought a well known cat magazine and the centre spread for that month was about the Norwegian Forest Cat. The magazine showed a photo of an adult male who looked fantastic. We rang Frances Matthews who was “local” to us. She kindly invited us up to have a look and meet the breed in the fur!! All her kittens had been spoken for but we spent a very pleasurable afternoon and early evening learning about the breed and watching the kittens play. I promise you if my bag had been big enough I could have willingly tried to smuggle a couple of them home with me.We waited until Frances’ Ingerid had more kittens the following year, and as they say the rest is history. We not only gained two beautiful Wegies but also someone who has become a very much valued friend. We love you Frances, but I’m not so sure Richard, my husband, does as our furry family has grown some over the years!!! He keeps tripping over the cats or their toys!!! He’s sure he will damage his back one day as he hops about trying to get his balance when he thinks he has stood on a cat/kitten, which turns out to be one of their toys.We have now been breeding NFC’s for approximately eight years. Our aim is to breed good examples of the breed in all aspects, ie. good type, temperament and of course character. Not necessarily in that order. The Wegies are a natural breed, (not been tampered with to “improve”!!) they have no inbred health problems. They all of them have such adorable characters, they are affectionate, mischievous and intelligent. You can almost see the thought bubbles above their heads sometimes. The more love and attention and play you give them the more fun and amusement and love you get back in return. Pudding is a “magpie” who will try to make off with any jewellery, even if you happen to be wearing it at the time and the “bathroom plug”. Ilse her mum is a kleptomaniac who “borrows things like, large packs of loo rolls, pairs of tights or just anything that takes her fancy. Our cats are basically indoor cats. We do have runs and pens outside where they spend their days, but after the evening meal then they are indoors for the night with us. The kittens are naturally reared indoors. Where they enjoy watching the football go across the screen and can’t understand why they can’t catch it at the side!!! It doesn't always go down too well with Richard when they decide to drape the front half of their body down and across the screen to catch the ball when it is an “important match” that he wants to watch. All kittens who leave us to bring fun, love and laughter into their new owners lives will go with having had their inoculations, been wormed, (the poor vet, the kittens really don’t like taking those pills, thank you Stephen ), a signed four generation pedigree and the kittens will of course have been registered with the GCCF
